On May 18, 2019, a regular feeder ship delivered the first test containers of the world’s largest sea container carrier, MSC, from Baku to the port of Aktau.
This event was a confirmation of the beginning of promising and fruitful cooperation. The representative of the company DP World, manager of commerce of the port of Aktau, Martin Voetmann, noted that this is an important result of joint efforts aimed at reorienting the port’s capabilities towards container traffic.
In the near future, the number of MSC containers handled through the port may increase to 10,000 a year.
At this time, the capacity of the port of Aktau can receive and process up to 40 thousand containers, but the strategic objectives are much higher – about 100 thousand. In such conditions, the involvement of the world’s largest company with its fleet of containers gives the port a good opportunity for the port to increase the volume of container cargo transshipment and thus confirm its compliance with international standards.
