OSCE Green Certificate

On July 12, 2022, the official ceremony of awarding Sea port of Aktau with a certificate of “Port Environmental Expertise System” (SEEP) from the European Sea Ports Organization (EMPO) was held.

As Abai Turikpenbayev, Chairman of the Executive Board (President) of Sea port of Aktau JSC, noted earlier at the Belgian Forum of Transit and Transport Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union, Aktau port has become the first seaport in Kazakhstan that received a recognized “green” status and is now a member of the global network of certified ports.

Sea port of Aktau was certified under the EcoPorts project, a globally recognized standard for environmental management in ports and based on an independent audit by Lloyd’s Register, LRQA, the Netherlands, after a thorough study of the submitted documentation.

It is important to note that having an EcoPorts certificate is an additional responsibility and an ambitious statement for the port that requires sustainable efforts towards implementation of its sustainable development system to maintain its “green” status, and demonstrate annual improvements and remain a leader in its industry as well.

The OSCE representatives and Daniel Cross, Senior Program Officer for Energy Security at the OSCE Secretariat took part in the awards ceremony today.
