Visit of the German Federal President

As part of a state visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Mangistau region to get acquainted with the economic potential of the region.

During the visit, the distinguished guest was acquainted with the development of one of the sectors of the priority sphere of the Kazakh economy – the transport and logistics cluster of Western Kazakhstan.

At the site of the port of Kuryk, the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Marat Karabaev presented to the head of the German state the strategic vision of the Ministry for the development of the republic’s transit potential and outlined measures to increase the attractiveness of the TITR route.

In addition, the German leader was presented with projects for the prospective development of the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk, the completion of which will increase the total capacity of the Kazakh port infrastructure from 17.3 to 39.3 million tons per year.

Also, as previously reported by the KTZ press service, within the framework of the state visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between JSC “KTZ” and the German company Rhenus, under which the parties intend to work together to increase cargo traffic on the Trans-Caspian international transport route.

The document also provides for cooperation in the development of logistics centers and an increase in the terminal capacities of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk.

In addition to getting acquainted with projects for the development of transit potential and coastal infrastructure, the President of Germany also took part in the opening ceremony of the Kazakh-German Institute of Engineering and the launch of test drilling at the green hydrogen production plant of the Swedish-German company Svevind.
